Meet Pastor Bob Newlin and the SVBC staff

I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our webpage.  As you can see, we have much to offer ... from different worship experiences to several church events to several outreach opportunities.  We encourage our congregation to use their gifts God has blessed them with and you will definitely have that opportunity here!!!

Smith Valley Baptist Church is truly a place "Where HOPE is raised and Jesus is PRAISED!"  It is my prayer you take the opportunity to come and be our guest; and, if you have any questions that I might be able to answer about this fine 'Body of Christ' ... I look forward to hearing from you.

In Christ, Pastor Bob

- A Brief History -

Smith Valley Baptist Church began as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood, in November of 1953. On March 20, 1955 the church was formally organized, with 26 charter members.

The congregation moved into the present location in March 1959.

In April of 1996 a storm forced a major rework of the church building. Straight-line winds ripped through the Smith Valley community, damaging many homes and businesses, and damaging the church to the extent that it was no longer safe to conduct worship services within the walls of the building.

In March, 1997, the repairs, the remodeling, and the many updates were completed, and the Smith Valley Baptist Church congregation moved back home.

With a vibrant congregation, and a large group of children in the 6-13 age range, Smith Valley Baptist looks to the future with anticipation, excitement, and the attitude that we are still the "miracle church" that God called into being over 50 years ago.
